My Mission with Custom Art

My mission with custom work is to spread love- to help people, my clients, the recipients of my work, to experience
Christ's love through my commitment and dedication to their concerns and passions, and the application of a God-given
gift. I try to do this by creating something that intimately reflects the cares and tastes of the person or people for whom
the artwork is being made.

Every time someone hires me and tells me what they hope for, they put it in my hands and trust me with it. I believe this
is almost an analogy of what it's like to put our faith in God. Every time I take up those hopes like delicate little treasures
and try to make it happen, I feel that I am representing the God I know and trust. I pray- I definitely do! Because to
succeed, more than money; to succeed is to let one person experience how God handles our concerns. Just a little tiny
taste. Obviously, what we hope for in a piece of artwork is less than a fraction of what we hope for in life. Even so, I
always seek to exceed expectations, because God has a lot more ability and power than me. And when we trust Him,
He exceeds our wildest expectations. So every time someone hires me, I hope to give them a taste of the love, concern
and ability God has to meet them. And every time someone feels that a painting is completely customized to them, that
every attention was made to their tastes, that I exceeded expectations- I think they get just a little taste of God's love.
Someone they don't know took the time to find out about them, to care about what they care about.
God is like that, but he doesn't have to "take the time." He already knows.

This is why I am able to do great work- it's more than just artwork or money to me.
Here is some custom work that I have done and what I did to make it special.
This is the first commission I
was hired to do for the Falley
Family. It was a gift for Zoe
Falley less than a year after her
husband of 25 years passed
away. This picture was taken
before they were married, and
had great sentimental value.
The problem was, the photo
was cracked and blemished.
There was also some stuff in
the background which I
removed to make it more about
them, and I added some yellow
to give it warmth. Pure black
and white was too cold for the
warmth of a lifelong romance.

Bella and Payton
Portrait

for Anna Falley
16" x 20"
Watercolor
Bella and Payton are two very
special pups, and this painting was
commissioned as a Christmas
present. The original picture was
taken from a camera phone and
was too low-quality to be blown up. I
worked from this photo as well as
many other photos to get the
expressions and colors right.
I sent a picture of the painting in
progress, so Calli could see how it
was coming along. I completely
surprised her by changing the
background to a cozy red blanket.
Anna's room is done up in red and
black, and they are colors that she
really likes. She got more than a
picture of two dogs she loves.
Max & Dudley Portrait
Commissioned by Courtney Kanner
for her parents' anniversary
11" x 14"
Gouache
When I started on this painting, I knew
that the colors needed to be bright
because I had asked what other artwork
was hanging in the house. But when I
looked up some vintage circus posters,
to better understand what the Kanners'
collection was all about, I was inspired
with a different idea altogether. I emailed
Courtney some of the pictures that I
found, and said, "Would something like
this fit in with your parents' collection?" I
made it a mock-circus poster, and I even
painted in gouache for the first time to
get the bright smooth colors of a poster.
Christen's Logo
If my dear friend, Christen, was a
flower, I think she'd be a bright
orange California Poppy. This
logo was designed for her
surprise 30th birthday party. A
bunch of her friends got together
and "made" her a little coffee
shop all her own, since she loves
coffee so much. We used the
logo on cups and coasters, on
the syrup bottles and bags of
coffee beans and on the menus.
Christen loves orange and
browns and greens, and the
casual font and poppy flower
reflected her perfectly.
My Business Card
My own business card is about more
than what I do; it reflects me. It has a
clean, professional look, with a bit of a
casual fun to it. For people who know
me well, they are not surprised to see
that it features Jule, my Senegal Parrot.
Jule travels with me almost everywhere I
go and often hangs out on my shoulder
as I work. My art teachers often told me
I should include Jule in more paintings
as a little trademark touch.
I am not limited in what I can do for you, and I will strive to
exceed your expectations. If you would like that personal touch
to your business design, or would like to hire me for a portrait or
any other custom art (including invitations!), please
